Who we are and what we do Founded in the 1957, the Society is an international organization of professionals dedicated to the advancement of sexual knowledge. The Society publishes a professional journal, sponsors programs to recognize research excellence, and holds an annual meeting and regional conferences, designed to promote interdisciplinary cooperation among researchers, educators and clinicians. Membership in SSSS actively supports the Society's work in advancing knowledge about sexuality, rewarding research excellence and promoting freedom of inquiry for researchers.
SSSS Membership In addition to voting rights in the society, participation in regional activities and reduced conference fees, members receive:
- The Journal of Sex Research, a scientific quarterly.
- The Society Newsletter, giving information about the Society and other related activities of interest.
- The Membership Handbook, a yearly directory of the membership.
Discounts on The Annual Review of Sex Research, Archives of Sexual Behavior, Journal of the History of Sexuality, Journal of Sex Education and Therapy, Journal of Psychology and Human Sexuality, AIDS Education and Prevention, and membership in SIECUS.Eligibility for Membership Membership is limited to applicants who have demonstrated an active professional commitment to the advancement of knowledge about sexuality. Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee to determine eligibility; additional information may be requested. If an applicant is accepted, membership becomes effective with the payment of dues. Membership is paid on a calendar year basis only. After September 1, all membership dues paid will be applied to the next calendar year. A hardship dues application form is available on request.
Categories of Membership
- Member: Must have an advanced degree in one's area of expertise.
- Couple: A reduced-fee category for couples members.
- Associate: Must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant academic discipline.
- Student: Undergraduate/graduate students must be enrolled in a college or university program in a relevant discipline.
