Support Group Services for Gay and Bisexual Men in Relationships with Women

This paper describes support group services offered since 1982 to gay and bisexual men who are married or in other forms of committed relationships with women. The support group provides a positive social adjunct to these men concurrently involved in individual counseling and/or psychotherapy. For some men, the support group provides the only positive social supports available and mitigates like-seeking behaviors at bars, parks, bookstores, reststops, etc. Although each group session is informal and relatively unstructured, twelve main themes are addressed as they emerge naturally through the group process, which will be discussed.
