Treating the Deviant Sexual Urge

Most therapists are under-informed about the treatment of sex offenders. The session will cover the history of the treatment of sex offenders, etiology of the development of a sexual deviation, and current techniques in the successful treatment of paraphilias.

Treatment includes individual and group therapy which encompasses a strong emphasis on the behavioral approach. Techniques include aversive conditioning, physiological and psychological testing, the development of social skills and body work. Families are included in the treatment as well as a strong relapse prevention program.

Video clips emphasizing important points will be included as well as case studies that clarify treatment concerns. Current research as to the effectiveness of treatment will be covered.
